“30 Day” Challenge Intro, Entry #1

I found a random 30-day blog challenge online, and I decided to do it because I liked the subject matter. It’s not a challenge for me to do anything other than write about the topic for that particular day. And I need an excuse to write more, so why not.

Note that I am not actually going to do this is 30 consecutive days, because, well, I have shit to do and I won’t always care. That said, here’s entry number one.

Weird things you do when you’re alone.

This is one of those questions that’s hard to answer because most of the things you do when you’re alone are semi-subconscious - you don’t really pay much attention to them. Aside from certain tasks that is, but let’s not get into that ;)

I talk to myself a lot. I will say something out loud like it’s to another person. For example, if something startles me, I’ll announce it. “Holy crap that scared me.” Similarly, I will talk to the cat, or people in cars, or other mediums that have no way of hearing me.

Also somewhat similar is I sing a lot. In the car, in my room, in the shower. It kind of stems from a desire to always have noise. I’m not sure what implanted that in my head, but I don’t like silence. There’s always a TV on when I’m sleeping (at least until I fall asleep - timers always turn them off). There’s always tunes in my car. The only time I don’t have anything other than natural sounds around me going is when I’m on the motorcycle, but it usually does a pretty good job of giving me something to listen to.

I pick my nose if I’m alone or around certain people, and Kleenex is not accessible or - more likely - I don’t care.

I check behind shower curtains if I’m using the bathroom and it’s closed and I can’t see behind it. Just one of those quirks, I guess. Even in my own house (although here I just open the curtain entirely because I don’t like it closed). I’m rational enough to know that there’s very likely nothing behind the shower curtain, but I do it anyway :-p

I also tend to play the drums best when I’m alone and I know no one is listening. I don’t know how I’ll ever perform in front of a crowd - large or small - if I’m bothered by simple things like my roommate or girlfriend listening.

Those are all the things I can think of besides normal things that people do when they’re alone, like wander around the house in your underwear, watch the occasional dirty movie, etc. Nothing too interesting, in my opinion.
